Born
and raised in Los Angeles, California, Yolanda Allen is an
entrepreneur and a natural entertainer.
After earning a degree in Theatre Administration through an
intensive training program at the legendary Los Angeles Inner
City Cultural Center, she was hired as a staff member of the
Center and was heavily involved in four to six theatre productions
a year as a performer, director, box office manager, lighting
director and administrator. During this time, she was blessed
to be mentored by the late C. Bernard Jackson and worked under
the direction of George C. Wolfe, who instilled in her the
importance of THE WORK!!
Yolanda served as the assistant to the Director of Olympic
Operations at ABC Sports planning the biggest party of the
1980’s – The 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics.
ABC Sports was awarded the contract to act as host broadcaster
and Ms. Allen was pivotal in planning the space, budget, and
technical requirements for the international broadcasting
community.
She later was involved in planning numerous national, regional
and local staff meetings while a member of the administrative
team of City of Hope National Medical Center’s Development
Center and coordinated the fundraising efforts of fourteen
satellite offices across the country.
As a performer, Yolanda was Aretha, the Singing Secretary
on the daytime drama, “General Hospital” on ABC-TV
and has appeared on such shows as “Guiding Girls”
(as a panelist) on the Fox Family Channel. She is a self-proclaimed
“game show junkie” having appeared (and won) on
a number of national shows including “Family Feud”,
“The $25,000 Pyramid (with Dick Clark), and “Hollywood
Squares.”
For six and a half years, she successfully produced her own
comedy showcase, “Yo-Yo & Friends” once a
month at the world-famous Ice House Annex in Pasadena, California.
She currently holds a seat as a Board Member of the Sickle
Cell Disease Foundation of California where she serves as
Board Secretary. She is a dedicated advocate, public speaker
and volunteer for a number of ongoing events for the Foundation.
